Start of a new series of mixes from myself, DJ Dontyste. These are not really mixtapes per se more just a collection of tunes quite literally picked and mixed live. First one's got a chilled housey vibe to it.
Obey! return with another blog post accompanied once again with a mix and featuring introductory bio and some tunage.
Bio/Manifesto:
We are Tom (Onemandub) and Jon (The Kingdom) from Obey.
We’ve been promoting for roughly four years in Cardiff and have been involved in various different projects during this period. We started off with dark drum & bass events under the moniker Elemental which featured such artists as Keaton, Dom & Roland, Skitty & Nolidge, Loxy, Vicious circle and Manifest to name a few. After that we did a run of events under the name Experimental bringing a harder more experimental sound to the city. These events were a mixture of breakcore, jungle, post - dubstep, minimal techno, etc trying to branch out in territories unknown here in Wales at the time bringing down the likes of Jahba (USA), Bizzy B, Synkro, King Cannibal and Atki2.
After 6 months of the Experimental brand, we decided to take a leave of absence from the promotion scene to concentrate on dj’ing and producing. During this period there was a shift in the UK Bass music scene in Cardiff as more and more people began to take interest in the post-dubstep/future garage sound which we had been immersing ourselves in around that time. Due to this we thought that maybe it was time to start pushing these sounds again as it wasn’t really catered for here so we started pulling together plans for what is now known as Obey!
We don’t really have a setguideline of genres at our night, more a tempo limit if anything (we try not to go higher than 160 bpm) so our events change sound night to night but all hinged around bass weight music. Our previous acts include Synkro, RSD, Doc Daneeka and Indigo with Warlock lined up for the 8th of April (which is a Vs. event with Traffic) and plenty more lined up for the future. We also currently run a monthly versus night with another night, Signature which is in the same musical vein as Obey.

A recent installment in preparation for the launch of Doorly's label "Pigeonhole This!" sees the man himself and scratching ginger giant, Jaguar Skills, take on Musical Youth's high times classic "Pass the Dutchie." Resulting in a bootleg worthy enough for anyone to shake a leg at.
So, a couple of weeks ago I had a post on here about a night I was DJing at. One of the promoters organising the night was 'Obey'. A relatively new night in Cardiff they have already had a number of successful nights including Indigo, RSD, Synkro and Doc Daneeka. The sound they're pushing is new, diverse and encompasses the full spectrum of the UK bass scene.
At first, I approached the boys for a simple guest post but on further contemplation decided that a resident slot here on WTD? would be much more fitting to a team of enthusiastic young DJs and promoters striving to push new music in Cardiff. SO, it brings me great pleasure to welcome Obey to the WTD? family.

Obey are going to be contributing regularly with original productions, tracks, mixes and much more giving us a unique insight into the underground movement in Cardiff which will hopefully take centre stage in the coming months/years.
In the mean time, go check them out for yourselves...
Nicky Otter a.k.a. Beatotter has been my co-host on WTD? since very early on in the show's history. While our musical tastes sometimes differ, Nick's passion/extreme excitability for music is unquestionable. So naturally, Beatotter will be featuring regularly on this blog. Now over to him....
My name is Nicky and I DJ under the alias of 'Beatotter'. After drumming from the tender age of 12 in various bands, gigging constantly, recording multiple EPs and demos, a great passion for dance and all electronic music finally turned my hands onto decks. Since that point I have DJed at a number of nights around the UK, the majority in Cardiff, including the new and upcoming 'Processed' as well as a Room 2 slot for 'Annie Mac Presents' at the Millenium Music Hall. I have co-presented the radio show 'What's the Diff?' with Sammy for two years and have jumped at the opportunity to litter this blog with a wide spectrum of tunes. Posts from me will take you all around the world, from unfriendly eclectic bangers to big clubbed up basslines, sunsoaked afrobeat and everything in between.
